Maybe it’s because I believe hardcore in the magic of black girls, or maybe it’s because I believe in the healing power of the world, but I’ve always wanted to be a witch. The universe is a mystical and enchanting place and to be able to harvest and tap into that, well — that’s pretty cool.
Molly: I've always been interested in occult-adjacent things, which has manifested in adult me as a half-belief in the healing power of crystals and a weekly reading of my horoscope. I also grew up in Rhode Island, so the history of Salem, as well as my own state's history as a safe place from religious persecution, felt omnipresent. All that, coupled with the fact that independent women have long been punished for thinking freely and bucking social norms, makes witches (as an archetype and as real people*) fascinating to me.
And so, we decided we had to do something in honor of witches, both past and present — as well as something that would help to encourage the next generation of wicked women, too. With that, we offer you the must-haves to get your spell on and look magical while doing it.
*We recognize that there are actual practicing witches out there who know much more about any of this than we do. We are by no means experts, but hope to inspire you to explore and research more for yourself.
